Contact: Mikelle Bryson-CampbellMore Details
Sarnia Lambton Workforce Development Board (SLWDB) is a community-directed, not-for-profit corporation leading Sarnia Lambton in its approach to workforce development and labour market planning.
We function as a neutral broker of research, disseminator of information, and facilitator of collaborative partnership development. Our mission is to identify needs and facilitate solutions to attract, train and retain a sustainable workforce through community partnerships.
Operating as part of Workforce Planning Ontario, we are one of 25 local planning board areas mandated through the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to conduct and disseminate local labour market research and engage community stakeholders in a planning process that supports local solutions to local issues.
Our History
SLWDB, formerly known as the Sarnia Lambton Training Board, was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization on November 5, 1997. At the time of incorporation, the Board was jointly funded by the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada.
The research we undertake provides the springboard for us and our community partners to discuss and prioritize labour market issues, trends, and opportunities unique to Sarnia Lambton
We then act on these collaborative discussions, in partnership with local stakeholders, to resolve specific issues and meet identified needs. In addition to undertaking research and publishing reports on our findings, two of which are described below in greater detail, we organize and host a number of events related to workforce development throughout the year.
Our cornerstone publication
On an annual basis, we publish a Local Labour Market Report. This report is a result of a collaborative process with our community partners and stakeholders, and provides us with a roadmap for developing an action plan on how to address our workforce needs.
Timely data
We publish Workforce Focus reports to provide accurate, up-to-date data on the Sarnia Lambton workforce development picture. Each Workforce Focus hones in on a particular workforce issue such as tourism sector development or the local aboriginal workforce.
